Ajo Veterinary Clinic can fill your pet’s prescriptions during your visit, or if you prefer we can provide a written prescription or call one in to the pharmacy of your choice. We work with several Compounding Pharmacies in order to meet the needs of wide variety of patients. Many prescriptions can be compounded with flavors that make them more acceptable to sick or fussy pets, also some medications need to compound to get the dose small enough for the very small size of some of our patients. There are even a few things that can be compounded so that they can be dosed transdermaly, (applied to the skin) instead of given by mouth.
We recommend that if you use an on line pharmacy you be sure you are dealing with one that is within the United States and is regulated by the FDA, or the CMS. There are currently a lot of problems with low-cost on-line pharmacies and counterfeit drugs. Many on-line pharmacies claim to be in the United States and are not. The problem with counterfeit drugs has become a serious one, in human as well as veterinary drugs, and the drugs and the packaging are often difficult, even for an experienced pharmacist, to tell apart.
